Want to spend hours looking at your own reflection?

A house constructed entirely of mirrors has hit the market for $1,192,639 (£918,799.88) – and the internet has been left puzzled by the owner’s unique choice of interiors.

From the outside, everything looks relatively normal with this Illinois property.

There’s a classic all-American driveway leading up to the house, multiple balconies and a sizeable front door decorated with an opulent white and gold pattern.

Then, after wiping your shoes on the doormat and stepping inside, you’re hit with it: there are mirrors everywhere.

The hallway is arguably the least confrontational space, with just a handful of mirrors adorning the walls (though still more than you’d have in an average room).

But turning into the kitchen is where things get interesting, as practically every surface possible is fitted with a mirror, from the kitchen cabinets to the fridge and breakfast island (though it does give a fun retro diner feel).

The theme continues into the bathroom, where you’re met with gold furnishings that create more colourful reflections – like something out of The Great Gatsby.

Elsewhere, the living room is a little more understated but still has a mirror-fronted unit next to the windows, as does the nursery, which has reflective built-in storage.

Naturally, the unique listing has attracted the attention of various commentators, and has even made its way onto the famed SpottedonRightmove Reddit thread, which dedicates itself to pointing out weird and wonderful properties hitting the market.

And everyone is saying the same thing – that it’s owned by ‘sex people’ who love watching themselves – and their partners – while deep in the moment.

‘Lynn, these are sex people!’ @JaphetCorncrake argued in the comments section, while @CigarSmoker2000 positioned the property as either ‘an influencer final boss home’ or a ‘sex people home, maybe.’

‘I just imagined that they’d be going through several bottles of Windex to clean that house,’ @GlumpsAlot chimed, while @ans-myonul joked that they were ‘too ugly to live there.’

‘On reflection this is not the house for me,’ @HamsterEagle laughed, as @3pelican said: ‘I have body dysmorphia, I’d need extra budget to cover the therapy bill.’ Well, that’s one way to look at it.

‘Someone is really, really concerned about vampires,’ @hyperlobster wrote in jest, as @BabyBearBennett said that since they have vertigo, they ‘would not be able to go into that house’ as ‘the pictures alone’ made them ‘too dizzy.’ Fair enough.

Apparently though, this isn’t the only house of mirrors that’s hit the market in recent years: in 2023, an ‘invisible’ home in Joshua Tree, California, made entirely of glass hit the market for $18 million (£13.8 million).

Resembling a mirrored box and reflecting the surrounding desert scenery, the property was constructed entirely of heating-reflecting Solarcool glass, keeping the interiors temperate and filtering out harmful UV rays.

Before going on the market, the house enjoyed numerous film cameos, as well as a feature on Netflix’s The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals. The home also appeared on Airbnb, with a per night cost of $2,500 (£1,926.22).
